Brexit – What does it mean for the IT and Telecoms industry?
After the UK voted to leave the EU on the 23rd of June 2016 discussions have surrounded the future of the economy, trade and employment. But what about IT and Telecoms?
As highlighted in this year’s Queen’s speech, there are currently ongoing discussions and reforms to the current DPA (Data Protection Act 1998) to implement the European Union – GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) in 2018.
The reform will ensure the UK will meet its obligations whilst still being a member of the EU and maintain the ability to share data with the EU after we leave. In the UK economy the communications sector is around £57-billion, our country’s second largest after the financial sector. An article on TalkingTech goes into looking at the effects this will have on cross-border services, net neutrality and all the major points that will effect UK telecoms businesses.
In the meantime, Basilisk Data will ensure compliance with GDPR by training our engineers and staff.
This will mean we can continue providing peace of mind to businesses whilst carrying out any IT sensitive works. If you have any questions about how Brexit may affect your business, please get in touch.
